Many people don't realize that you have to submit an application fee when you apply for college. This becomes a financial difficulty for some families who have college bound students. Sure, there are low-income waivers, but there are a great many who fall in what I call the great middle-class nowhere land. Their parents make just enough money to keep them out of the poverty level, but they don't have much extra income for savings and other extra expenses. These are the people that the great governor of North Carolina is trying to reach this week.
According to this press release, this week, NC students can apply for any State college or university for FREE!
Our backyard extends beyond the area behind our house, it includes the places we frequent, the places we visit, the places where we live life. This blog is all about the things we find in our backyard and beyond.

Student Loans
Two of our daughters are now in high school and already college looms ahead. They prepare to take the correct courses and do well in them, and we as their parents worry about how to pay for college when the time comes. Most parents and students end up getting student loans even though there are many scholarships and grants touted to be floating around. There is still not quite enough to fund all their expenses while they are in school. So loans it is for most families and we cross our fingers that they zip through college and get a well paying job so they can pay the loans back. This website, premierstudentloan.com also offers options for a private loan in case the traditional loans won't work for your situation. It is great that the world wide web is now available as a resource to pre-collegiate students. It is now so much easier to find funds for college.

Garden Classroom
The garden can be a great teaching environment. Children can learn science, biology and earth environment right in your own backyard. However, sometimes professionals need to step in. Especially when it comes to numbers. Math Tutors can help your child succeed by providing them with tools and study tips that can make numbers easier to understand, especially for children ages 4 to 14. Children who have had the advantage of being tutored have been known to make significant academic progress.
